Where every firing is a phoenix moment
Made for artists who rise

Aussie Metal Clay was born from a need for a metal clay that could change, adapt, and evolve alongside the artist using it.

Inspired by makers who push boundaries and trust the fire, we believe every design deserves the chance to become something more than it began.

How it Started…

Aussie Metal Clay — where every firing is a Phoenix moment.

More than twenty years ago, a close friend posed a quietly revolutionary question: What if metal could behave like pottery?

The idea that metal could begin its life as a soft, workable clay—and then be transformed in a kiln into solid metal—was instantly captivating. What started as a casual conversation about creating a material better suited to Kim’s sculpting practice soon ignited something far greater. Ros Bailey’s journey into metal clay began with a simple, determined thought: “It can’t be rocket science.”

That single question led to hands-on experimentation. Originally developed to meet the creative needs of one artist, the clay quickly attracted wider interest. Demand from the USA for high-quality, Australian-made metal clay grew, and through a successful Kickstarter campaign, Aussie Metal Clay was born.

Driven by a passion for innovation, uncompromising quality, and Kim’s invaluable input from an artist’s perspective, Ros went on to develop a versatile range of metal clays—including base metals, fine silver, sterling silver, and Argentium Silver—giving artists greater freedom to explore, refine, and express their ideas.

Alongside these clays came essential supporting products: Kim’s ClayStay (the original metal clay glue), Aussie Refresh (a metal clay rehydrator, formerly known as Kim’s ClaySpray), and Aussie Lube, a metal clay release. Together, these innovations helped shape Aussie Metal Clay into a brand trusted by a global community of makers.

Today, Aussie Metal Clay remains deeply committed to supporting artists worldwide through continual refinement, collaboration, and innovation.
